Welcome

As the only synchronized swimming club in the MD of Foothills, the Okotoks Synchro Sea Queens (OSSQ) proudly serve swimmers from the communities of Okotoks, High River, Black Diamond, Turner Valley and Calgary. Okotoks is only a 15 minute (20km) commute from the south end of Calgary on highway 2/2A. The Recreation Centre has been recently renovated and offers a 6 lane lap pool, a 4 lane pool, a hot tub and sauna facilities.

Established in the 1980's, the OSSQ first became affiliated with Synchro Alberta in 1990 with 11 recreational swimmers. Over the years the club has helped develop many young female swimmers, several of whom have coached for the club. Growth over the past 5 years has our membership at around 50 swimmers between all three programs; AquaSquirts, Recreation and Competitive. One of the club's advantages, to many of the swimmers, is that it balances the rigorous training intrinsic to the sport with the kind of relaxed fun that makes it enjoyable for beginners and more casual swimmers.

At the conclusion of the 2010-2011 season we asked our swimmers what they liked the most about synchro. This is what they told us:

• the sport in general
• learning new figures & developing my skills as a swimmer
• friends & meeting other girls
• events & parties
• preparing and putting on a show.

2008: Synchro Canada: Third Most Successful Club in Canada for growth in membership.
2009: Synchro Canada: Silver award for Club Excellence.

To provide a unique opportunity for girls to pursue fun, fitness and friendship while developing skills in the sport of synchronized swimming.

Vision:

To ensure that girls interested in the sport of synchronized swimming have an opportunity to participate in an affordable, accessible experience that will allow them to train in ways that are consistent with their goals.
